Web Design

Ecommerce Website Development

Ecommerce website development for businesses whose catalog, delivery zones or payment methods need more than a standard store setup. The platform comes first, then the catalog, checkout and shipping rules around how you actually sell.

What to send for a quote

  1. Roughly how many products, and how they vary
  2. The countries you sell to and how buyers pay
  3. Your couriers or how you deliver today

What it is

A store built around how you sell

Ecommerce website development is the planning and build of an online store: catalog, product pages, cart, checkout, payments, shipping rules and the order emails that follow. The platform decision comes first, because it sets your running costs and who can work on the store later.

If you already know you want Shopify, our Shopify store development page covers that build. If you need a company site next to the store, see WordPress website development. All build types sit under our web design services.

  • Checkout
  • Shipping rules
  • Order emails

Why it matters

What a properly built store saves you

  • Fewer returned parcels

Clear product data, honest delivery rates and a cash-on-delivery confirmation step cut the orders that come back unopened.

  • Checkout that works in each market

Cards, bank transfer, wallets or cash on delivery, matched to where your buyers are. A checkout that fails abroad loses the sale quietly.

  • A store you can run day to day

Stock, orders and refunds handled from one admin. Adding a product should take minutes, not a developer.

What's in a build

What ecommerce website development should cover

A store that is ready to sell needs these six areas settled. Scopes are compared on our website design packages page. We build on WooCommerce and Shopify, and we agree the payment gateways and couriers for your markets before work starts.

  • Store plan

Categories, filters, product types and the menu, agreed before design so the catalog stays easy to browse as it grows.

  • Page designs

Home, category, product, cart, checkout and account pages, designed for mobile first.

  • Products and stock

Simple and variable products, images, stock and SKUs imported from a clean spreadsheet like the example below.

  • Checkout and payments

The payment methods your markets expect, each tested with a real transaction before launch.

  • Shipping, taxes and order emails

Zones, rates, free-shipping thresholds and courier details, tax settings per market, and confirmation, shipping and cancellation emails in your brand.

  • Tracking and store pages

Analytics with ecommerce events so you see revenue as well as visits, plus refund, shipping, privacy and terms pages. After launch, ecommerce SEO gets category and product pages found.

Choosing a platform

WooCommerce, Shopify or a custom build

The platform shapes your running costs, who can work on the store later and how far it can grow. For payments and couriers in Pakistan, read our Shopify vs WooCommerce guide.

WooCommerce

Self-hosted

Fits when

  • Your business already runs on WordPress
  • You want to own the hosting and the code
  • The store sits next to a lot of content

Think twice when

  • No one will own updates, backups and security

Shopify

Hosted

Fits when

  • You want to launch fast with no servers
  • Your catalog and checkout are standard
  • You sell in markets Shopify Payments supports

Think twice when

  • Your checkout logic is unusual enough that apps cannot handle it
Shopify store development

Custom build

Built to order

Fits when

  • Ordering, pricing or bundles fit neither platform
  • The store must connect deeply to back-office systems

Think twice when

  • You sell a handful of items and need a store soon
  • No developer will be around after launch

Product data

Product data, not design, slows most store launches

Clean data decides how easy the store is to run, filter and promote. A product spreadsheet with these columns imports cleanly on any platform.

If your data lives in an accounting system, a supplier sheet or an old store, an export is the usual starting point.

Ecommerce Websites: common questions

Should I use Shopify, WooCommerce or a custom build?

Shopify suits stores that want to launch quickly with no servers to manage. WooCommerce suits businesses already on WordPress, or those that want full control of hosting and code. A custom build only makes sense when your ordering process fits neither. The comparison on this page sets out the trade-offs.

Can my online store take cash on delivery?

Yes. Cash on delivery can be set up as a payment option on Shopify, WooCommerce and custom builds. Plan how COD orders are confirmed before dispatch, because unconfirmed orders are a common source of returned parcels.

Can a store connect to my inventory or accounting system?

Often, yes. It depends on whether your system offers an integration or an API. Check this before you choose a platform, because some connections exist on one platform and not another. We check your system's integration options while we scope the store, and the quote lists any connection we will set up.

How many products can be uploaded at once?

Large catalogs can be imported in bulk if the products are in a clean spreadsheet with images. Data that needs writing or cleaning first takes far longer than the import itself. We ask how your product data looks when we scope the store, and the quote lists the import and any cleanup as separate items.

Can I sell in more than one currency?

Yes. Multi-currency selling is possible on WooCommerce, Shopify and custom builds, but it affects pricing, payment gateways and taxes. Settle the currencies and markets before the build so checkout works for each one.

Who handles hosting and security for a WooCommerce store?

WooCommerce runs on hosting you own, so updates, backups and security checks need an owner. You can handle them in-house or hand them to a maintenance plan. Hosting should match the store's traffic and catalog size. We build WooCommerce stores and can help you set up hosting in your own name.
